When establishing a best practice approach for your compliance, privacy, and security programs, the HHS model compliance programs are quite voluminous and complex. So a good place to start is with a discussion of key elements and their best practices. From there, one can progress into increased granularity by illustrating some of the requirements for the specific areas of privacy and security that deal with compliance assessment. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy and Security rules call for conducting both privacy and security program assessments to create a best practice standard for how privacy and security compliance is managed.
